Activity Description

The goal of this activity is to review the pharmacology of drugs used in oncology. This will be a series of webinars and part 3 will focus on the pharmacology of targeted therapy including small molecules, monoclonal antibodies, and other immunotherapy. Drug mechanisms of actions, common adverse events, and clinical pearls of various drug classes will be reviewed with a focus on agents commonly used in the ambulatory setting. Audience members will gain better knowledge, understanding and confidence in the pharmacology of a wide range of targeted therapies.

Learning Objectives

  1. Explain the etiology and pathophysiology of cancer.
  2. Describe how the cellular processes are utilized to target cancer cells using unique mechanisms of action with targeted therapy.
  3. Discuss the landscape of small molecule targeted agents and monoclonal antibody therapies, including ones that are commonly used in cancer treatment.
  4. Summarize the pharmacologic mechanisms of action, common adverse effects, and clinical pearls of small molecule targeted therapies and monoclonal antibodies commonly used in the community oncology setting.
