Activity Description

The purpose of this CE presentation is to improve pharmacists’, pharmacy technician, and nurses’ understanding of the need for early and ongoing mental health intervention for patients with cancer. Presented by a two-time cancer survivor and bone marrow transplant recipient, patient advocate, and healthcare compliance professional, this session will bring the personal perspective of the need for mental health services for patients undergoing cancer treatments and implications for the ongoing need after treatment throughout survivorship.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the impact mental health has on a cancer patient’s prognosis, quality of life, and long-term well-being.
  2. Identify the barriers cancer patients face in receiving mental healthcare.
  3. Observe through the eyes of a cancer survivor how patient perspectives can guide effective mental health advocacy and support nursing practice.
