Beyond the Numbers: Understanding CBC Results to Support Safe Oral Oncolytic Therapy
Best Suited For: Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician
CE Credits: 1 hours
Activity Description
A Complete Blood Count (CBC) is one of the most essential tools for monitoring the safety and effectiveness of cancer treatment, particularly for patients receiving oral oncolytics. This one-hour continuing education activity is designed primarily for oncology pharmacy technicians and equips participants with the knowledge needed to understand CBC components, recognize clinically significant abnormalities, and appreciate how these results may influence treatment decisions. Through practical, real-world scenarios and workflow-focused guidance, participants will learn how to identify red-flag lab values, support timely communication with the clinical care team, and contribute meaningfully to patient care coordination. Emphasis will be placed on the growing role of oncology-trained pharmacy technicians in supporting laboratory monitoring and safety checks within the oral oncolytic workflow.
While this activity is tailored to pharmacy technicians, pharmacists are encouraged to participate to better understand technician-supported processes and reinforce collaborative team-based care. By strengthening awareness of CBC interpretation and workflow integration, this session supports safer medication management and enhances the specialized skills expected in oncology pharmacy practice.
CE Credit: 1 hour
Fee: This activity does not require payment to register.
