Activity Description

This continuing education activity examines cancer incidence, mortality, and national rankings for Kentucky, with a focus on disparities affecting the Appalachian region. Learners will explore key health behaviors and social determinants of health contributing to these cancer disparities. The activity also discusses the ACTION Program and its role in addressing cancer disparities in Appalachian Kentucky, with consideration of how similar models may be applied to other populations.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify national rankings and overall cancer incidence and mortality as it relates to the state of Kentucky as well as the Appalachian region of the state.
  2. Describe key health behaviors and social determinants of health driving Kentucky’s cancer disparities.
  3. Discuss the ACTION Program as it relates to addressing cancer disparities within Appalachian Kentucky and how a similar model may be utilized to address other populations’ unique cancer disparities.
