About Nathan

Nathan Shumway, D.O., F.A.C.P., is an experienced medical oncologist and hematologist with a demonstrated history of working in federal, community, academic and private health care sectors. Dr. Shumway started his career as an active duty officer in the Army Medical Corps. He completed Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center before moving on to complete his Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship training at Brooke Army Medical Center. After 10 years in academic medicine, serving as Program Director for the joint Army/Air Force Hematology & Oncology Fellowship for the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Corsortium, he transitioned to private practice in San Antonio with Texas Oncology. Dr. Shumway has continued to support his community through educational efforts as co-director for an annual city-wide cancer care meeting geared towards patients, advocates, physicians, nurses and other health care providers. He is active in leadership and has served as Area Medical Director for the San Antonio region and currently is a member of the TXO P&T committee. He also serves on the US Oncology P&T Executive Council. He has expertise in internal medicine and clinical research with an emphasis on breast cancer immunotherapy, colon cancer and benign hematology.
